York Theatre Royal is the oldest continuously operating theatre company in the English speaking world. It is a cultural hub for York, North Yorkshire and beyond, and is recognised nationally for the scale of its integration with the people of the city and the region. We provide an exciting mixed programme of work in our 760 seat main house, 70 seat Studio Theatre. We have an international reputation for the outstanding quality of our own produced work, as well as long standing partnerships with many other creative organisations

York Theatre Royal is a brave creative hub that aims to help our communities live creative lives. We do this principally through our Creative Engagement work, that broadly breaks down into three key areas: Youth Theatre, Community & Outreach and Education. Playhouse is key component of our education work, enabling us to engage with writers to produce new work and with schools to upskill teachers as artists, as well as providing opportunities for local children to perform on our stages.
