At Theatre Royal Plymouth, our mission is to inspire a lifetime of creativity for audiences, artists and participants throughout Plymouth and the wider region.

As the South West’s principal centre for performing arts, and the most well-attended regional producing theatre in the UK, we present a year-round programme of world-class and distinctive productions on all scales. We engage and inspire many communities, creating memorable experiences for people from all backgrounds.

We want to be recognised as industry leaders in how the next generation of artists and audiences are valued and recognised in creative organisations like TRP. As a registered charity we provide art, education, and community engagement throughout Plymouth and the wider region.

Playhouse is an integral part of our programme, providing opportunities for local artists & playwrights, creative professional development for teachers and offering profound personal development for children. The Playhouse project is proven to be the beginning of a lifelong love of theatre for children & families.

From children:

‘It’s magical to share this experience with my friends’

‘Magical, amazing, wonderous, extraordinary’

‘Playhouse has been absolutely amazing. I am so happy I’ve been offered this opportunity’

‘It was a real experience being involved in Playhouse. I want to be an actress when I’m older!’

‘Being in Playhouse has been amazing! It has given me the chance to meet other people and experience new things!’

‘Hi, it is the BEST time of my life’

From teachers:

‘The difference I have seen in the way our cast moved and communicated with each other over the rehearsal times has been wonderful to see develop, and as a direct result of this I am creating a Performance Arts team to take this further, as Dance and Drama were the ‘missing’ pieces of the puzzle I needed to ‘level up’ in my tenure here. This is a direct result of your project and I thank you for that!’
